Emma (Chapter 2)

Mr Knightley, Emma's friend, was really angry after knowing that Emma told Harriet to refuse marrying Mr Martin, who was a farmer. And Emma felt really sorry about making Mr Knightley frustrated and sad. On a Christmas Eve, Emma and some of her friends including Mr Elton, went to Mrs Weston. Emma thought it would have been great if Harriet had come to meet Mr Elton. Unfortunately Harriet was ill so she couldn't go. Emma thought Mr Elton would be upset when she told him Harriet was absent, but he did not. After dinner, when all of them left for home, Emma and Mr Elton were alone in a carriage. Emma was so surprised when Mr Elton suddenly took her hand and told her how much he loved Emma, not Harriet. Emma knew she made a huge mistake.

I feel really sorry for Harriet and Mr Martin because they liked each other, but because of Emma's mistake, they could not get married. Although Emma was kind, she should not put the marriage of Harriet as a game. I think people can choose whoever they want to get married with as long as they are happy with them.
