The absolutely true diary of a Part-time Indian (part 5)

Pages 158-196
A few days after the game, the worst thing happened with Junior's family: his grandmother was killed on a traffic accident by a drunk driver. Many people in the reservation were so sorry about his grandmother's death. She was a rare person in the reservation who never drunk any drop of alcohol. She also was so tolerant with all people. All Indians love her, too. In her funeral, there were many people came. Especially, there was an appearance of a stranger. He was Ted, who was really rich and famous in that reservation. He was white person but he loved Indians. He brought an old outfit of Junior's grandmother to the funeral. He told everyone a story about that outfit. That was from an Indian guy, that guy needed money, so he said he wanted to buy that outfit. At that time, Ted realized that the guy was a thief, he stole that outfit from another one. But that outfit was so beautiful that Ted gave the guy two thousands dollars. He had been finding the reat owner of that outfit. It took him a long time to do that. According to his finding, the owner was Junior's grandmother.
After Ted's story, Junior's mother walked up to Ted, she couldn't received the outfit because that's not grandmother's outfit. Junior's grandmother had never danced at any Powwow. So, Ted packed the outfit and went away. Then all Indians at the funeral were laughing. They were laughing and crying at the same time. They laughing at Ted and crying for funeral...
A few months later, another one went to another world. That was Eugene, his father's best friend, and also Junior's big friend. He was killed by a drunk. That drunk also Eugene's friend. Few days later, the drunk hung himself in the jail, everyone had no enough time to forgive him. Everything was collapse in front of Junior....
In a new reason, Reandar, Junior's high school had a game with Willpinit, Rowdy's high school. It meant he had to fight against his best friend again. In many games before that, Junior's team had always lost Rowdy's team. Junior wanted to win once. he wanted to beat his best friend. It really became true. During the game, Junior tried to guard Rowdy as best as he could. So, Rowdy couldn't get more points like before. By the time Rowdy and Junior were jumping to get the ball, Junior was jumping higher than Rowdy. It was unbelievable. Nobody could image that. Junior got points and his team won in that game. His teamates shouted his name, but he didn't feel happy. He saw his parents, they were seeing Rowdy's team, Indians kids with hard life, and sad. Junior cried, not beacause he won, but because he was ashamed of himself. He had broken his best friend's heart and Indian kids' heart. He had broken poor-kids' heart.

My respond: Poor Junior!!! There were many things happened to him. He must be really upset and tired. He lost many thing around him: his grandmother, his big friend (Eugene) and his best friend. I think he had to overcome that difficulties. I know it was really hard to him, it was harder than the thing that he was boycotted by white kids in Reandar. But I hope he can do that. He had power from his grandmother and from Eugene, they would help him from the differen world. Rowdy, I think he would more understandable with his friend, and he would fogive Junior about leaving Willpinit in someday. Best wishes for you, Junior!!!
